About Guarana
Guarana, is a type of flowering plant that is categorized under the group of Sapindaceae of maple family. The plant thrives in the lush Amazon rainforest's. The guarana plant has large leaves and clusters of flowers, and is best known for the seeds from its fruit, which are about the size of a coffee bean.
Common Uses
Guarana is also used as a cardiovascular health aid. It is used to tone, strengthen and balance the heart. It is also used to cleanse the blood and keep it from becoming “sticky” and forming clots. Guarana has also found favor as a means for preventing heat stroke and other heat illnesses. It lowers body temperature and supports the body’s exchange of electro-cycles.

GUARANA OUTLOOK
Since 1958 until today, all the raw materials such as Guarana Powder and Guarana Extract that is used by industries as stated above originated (imported)from Brazil. According to “Future Market Insights” report on 20.12.2016, Guarana global market to reach USD 7.4 Billion by year 2026.
CONTRACT FARMING PROGRAMME
Contract Farming is a platform created for smallholders/farmers to enable them to be part of this exciting new crop plantation (Guarana) in Malaysia. It is exciting due to the fact that Malaysia is the second country in the world beside Brazil that plant Guarana. With this program, we will be able to provide lucrative and sustainable income for the smallholders/farmers. However, such program is only limited to a maximum of 100 acres nationwide.
How Contract Farming Programme Works
1. To possess own land ready and suitable for planting of Guarana trees.
2. Minimum land size is one (1) acre.
3. Soil pH level ideally at pH 4.5 - 6.0
4. One acre of land can plant up to 300 trees.
5. Maturity period of each tree is within 24 months.
6. Each tree can produced an average of 40 kg fruits after maturity.
7. After maturity, harvest can be done every 8 -12 months.
8. Lifespan of tree is around 18-20 years.
9. Contract farmer to plant it, fertilize it and to manage it.
10. Know-How on planting and care of Guarana plantation will be provided by RGPHB.
11. Upon fruiting and upon notification from RGPHB, contract farmer to do the harvesting process and RGPHB will collect it from the farm.
12. Payment from RGPHB to Contract Farmer is within 10 working days after collection of Guarana fruits by RGPHB.
13. Contract period is maximum of 20 years or upon the lifespan of the tree, whichever comes first.
